Killer Night Guide: Grid, Paylines, Paytable and Bets

Killer Night is a line-pays slot on a square 5×5 grid, and there is a short list of things to learn before the first spin: how the 15 paylines read, what the symbols pay, what the bet range covers and what starts the free spins. This guide takes them in that order. The mechanics behind the wild and the two bonus rounds have a page of their own.

Grid, paylines and how wins form

The reel set is five reels of five rows, 25 positions in all. Across them run 15 fixed paylines. Fixed means two things: the lines cannot be switched off, and every spin is played on all of them, with the stake covering the whole set.

A win is a run of the same symbol on one payline, starting on the leftmost reel and continuing on neighbouring reels without a gap. The lines pay in one direction only, left to right, so a run that begins on the second reel or on the right edge pays nothing. The paytable inside the game lists the payout for each symbol at each run length; the figures quoted on this site are for five of a kind, the longest run the grid allows.

Because the grid is five rows tall, a symbol that covers more than one row sits on several lines at once. That is what makes the expanding wild matter: stretched over three cells, it counts on every line that passes through those cells, and one wild can complete several runs on the same spin.

Bet range and game settings

The stake runs from 0.20 to 240 per spin, in the currency of the casino. That is the price of a base-game spin on all 15 lines; there is no per-line setting to adjust. Three options change the price. The Ante Bet raises it to 3x the stake in return for Free Spins landing five times as often. Super Spin 1 costs 10x and Super Spin 2 costs 200x, and both put at least one wild on every spin. Two bonus buys at 100x and 500x start a bonus round directly. Prices, effects and RTP of all five are compared on the Super Spin and bonus buy page.

A few numbers keep the range in perspective. At the 0.20 minimum, the 10,000x cap is worth 2,000; at the 240 maximum, it is worth 2,400,000. A 100x bonus buy costs 20 at the minimum stake and 24,000 at the maximum.

The in-game info screen holds the full paytable, the rules of every feature and the RTP of the version the casino runs. There are three versions — 96.52%, 95.49% and 94.51% — and the one you are playing is visible only there.

Symbols and paytable

The paytable has eleven symbols that pay on lines — five props, five characters and the wild — plus two scatter symbols that do not.

Low-paying symbols

The five low symbols are prom-night props: an American football helmet, a cassette player, a pair of glasses, pom-poms and a corsage. Five of a kind on a line pays from 1.25x to 2.5x the bet, depending on the symbol. On their own they rarely carry a session; their value comes when a multiplied wild completes the line.

High-paying symbols

The five high symbols are the characters of the story, the students of Ridgeview High on the night of the prom. Five of a kind pays from 5x to 15x the bet. The spread between the cheapest prop and the best character is 1.25x to 15x, a twelvefold gap, which is why the symbol a wild completes matters as much as the length of the run.

Wild, Scatter and Super Scatter

The masked killer is the wild. It stands in for the ten regular symbols and pays in its own right: five wilds on a payline return 30x the bet, the highest line payout in the game. The wild does not stand in for the Scatter or the Super Scatter; those two count only by their own number on the reels.

The Scatter can land on any of the five reels. The Super Scatter is an orange disco ball that appears at most once per spin and only has an effect when at least two regular Scatters land with it. Neither pays as a line symbol; their job is to start the bonus rounds.

Reading the killer wild on the reels

When the wild lands, two things can happen to it before wins are counted. It can stretch along its reel, covering a random number of extra cells upward or downward. And it can show a multiplier of x2, x3, x5 or x10 that applies to every line win it is part of. When two multiplier wilds sit on the same line, their values multiply: x3 and x5 give x15, and two x10 wilds give x100. That rule — multiplication on a line — is the single most useful thing to know about how Killer Night works. What the wild does inside the bonus, where it also sticks and can merge, is on the wilds and free spins page.

When free spins trigger

Three, four or five Scatters anywhere on the reels start 10, 15 or 20 Free Spins. A Super Scatter with at least two Scatters starts Super Free Spins instead, again 10, 15 or 20 spins depending on how many scatter symbols land. Scatters do not have to sit on a payline. Neither round can be retriggered from inside; the spins awarded at the start are the whole bonus. The two rounds differ in how the wilds begin — Super Free Spins open with at least three already on the reels — and that difference is covered on the features page.

The Ante Bet and the two bonus buys change the way in: the Ante Bet makes the natural trigger five times as likely, and the buys skip the wait altogether. During Super Spin 1 and Super Spin 2, Free Spins cannot trigger at all.

Start with the demo

The free version on the home page is the right place to learn the grid. It uses play money and the same rules, so the paytable, the wild's expansion and a full bonus round can all be seen before any real stake is involved. There is no technique that changes the outcome of a spin — results are random and the RTP is fixed per mode — so the two decisions a player makes are the stake and the mode. The mode decides the RTP: the base game and Super Spin 2 run at 96.52%, the other three options at 96.44% to 96.45%. The comparison is on the return to player page.

Questions

How many paylines does Killer Night have, and which way do they pay?

Killer Night has 15 fixed paylines on its 5×5 grid. All 15 are active on every spin and cannot be changed, and they pay in one direction only: a winning run has to start on the leftmost reel and continue across adjacent reels. The number of lines does not change in Free Spins, Super Free Spins or any of the paid modes.

What is the bet range in Killer Night?

The bet runs from 0.20 to 240 per spin for the base game on all 15 lines. The paid modes multiply that stake: the Ante Bet costs 3x, Super Spin 1 costs 10x, Super Spin 2 costs 200x, and the two bonus buys cost 100x and 500x. At the 240 maximum a 500x buy therefore costs 120,000; at the 0.20 minimum it costs 100.

What do five wilds on a line pay in Killer Night?

Five masked-killer wilds on one payline pay 30x the bet, the highest line payout in the game. The wild also stands in for all ten regular symbols, so a line of four characters and a wild pays as five characters. If the wilds carry multipliers, those apply on top, and separate multipliers on the same line multiply each other rather than adding up.

Is Killer Night a scatter-pays slot?

No. Killer Night pays on 15 fixed paylines, left to right, and a symbol has to form a run on one of them to pay. The only symbols counted by number rather than position are the Scatter and the Super Scatter, and they start the bonus rounds instead of paying a prize. There is no cluster or pay-anywhere mechanic in the game.
